Richard T. Pratt is chairman of Richard T. Pratt Associates, a real estate management and investment firm. Most recently Dr. Pratt has been focusing on real estate opportunities in central and southern Utah, and he is the managing member of PUB Green Spring, LC, a Utah real estate investment company. Dr. Pratt has consulted and spoken on a broad range of financial topics both nationally and internationally. He has served on a number of boards of publically traded companies.
Dr. Pratt has had a distinguished career in housing finance as an educator, government official, investment banker and consultant. In 1981 Dr. Pratt was appointed Chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, and simultaneously served as chairman of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation and the Federal Savings Loan Insurance Corporation. During his tenure, Dr. Pratt introduced and oversaw major regulatory and legislative reforms affecting the housing finance industry.
In 1983, Dr. Pratt joined Merrill Lynch & Co. as the Chairman of its Merrill Lynch Mortgage, Inc. subsidiary. Dr. Pratt developed a major mortgage securitization and trading operation which issued some of the first Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (“CMOs”). From 1991 until his retirement in 1994, Dr. Pratt served as a Managing Director of the Financial Institutions Group at Merrill Lynch. Dr. Pratt also chaired the annual Midwinter Executive Housing Conference in Park City, Utah for over 35 years.
Dr. Pratt currently serves on the board of Celtic Bank (Salt Lake City), and is an emeritus member of the National Advisory Council for the University of Utah. He is an emeritus professor of finance in the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. He holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from Indiana University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah.
